How to Make Your Patio Doors Smooth

Aluminium bifold doors are great to have, but they might get hard to budge with time, especially if you have little ones in the house. If your door has stopped to move smoothly, we have shared some tips to help you adjust it using simple tools that you might already have at home. Here is the list of supplies you might need:

  • Steak knife
  • Vacuum
  • Screwdrivers silicone-based lubricant
  • Toothbrush or wire brush
  1. Target the Glass Door Track

Most sliding glass doors have tracks. These are the areas that get clogged with dust and stains, and this prevents the door from moving smoothly. Using a wire brush or toothbrush, you can clean the inside of the door track. However, you will notice that a wire brush cleans better than the toothbrush. You can get a good wire brush from someone that plays golf.

Once you are done clearing the dirt, you can use a vacuum to suck it all up.

  1. Lubricate Your Aluminium Bifold Door Track

You can use the silicon-based lubricant to clean the entire door track. One of the best silicone-based lubricants is the Garage Door Spray Lubricant. The fact that it does not attract dirt buildup also makes it one of the best choices. This product is readily available in any home depot and does not cost more than £5.

After applying it, you have to wipe any overspray that gets on the floor to avoid creating slippery surfaces.

  1. Adjust the Glass Door with a Smoother Ride

You will see that there are adjustable rollers inside the sliding glass door. These are what make it slide back and forth. On your sliding glass are holes that help to conceal the adjusting screws to the rollers.

You can use a knife to pry the plastic plugs loose. On each side of the door, you will see two sets of rollers.

Try to use a Phillips head screwdriver to help turn the roller adjusting screw. It is this adjustment screw that will move the roller height up or down hence regulating the height of your sliding glass door by between1/2 an inch or a ¼ centimetre.

Once you have done this, you should consider spraying some lubricant into the crew opening. It improves the movement of the rollers.
